Bridge between Landstuhl and Ramstein: closed to trucks over 3.5 tons until the end of 2025
Heavy traffic must be diverted: the railway bridge near Landstuhl is closed to vehicles over 3.5 tons until the end of 2025.
🚧 Landstuhl Railway Bridge: Closure for Heavy Traffic – Detour Until End of 2025
The State Office for Mobility (LBM) Kaiserslautern announces: The railway bridge along the L 363 between Landstuhl and Ramstein is closed to heavy traffic (over 3.5 tons) with immediate effect until probably the end of 2025. The reason is structural deficits identified during recent inspections and recalculations.
Who is affected?
- Heavy traffic over 3.5 tons: ❌ closed
- Passenger cars: ✅ still allowed
To redirect truck traffic, a signed route will be set up via Bruchwiesenstraße and Bahnstraße.
In addition, the city of Landstuhl will ensure that no alternative routes through side streets in the city area are used.
Why the closure?
The bridge was built in 1961 using prestressed steel that is now classified as critical. Although no concrete damage was found in recent metallurgical examinations, recalculations of load-bearing capacity revealed deficits – in relation to today’s technical standards.
The bridge is currently safe for passenger cars, but until further investigations are completed, heavy vehicles are not allowed to cross as a precautionary measure.
What happens next?
- Temporary reinforcements are currently being reviewed. The goal is to possibly relax or lift the restriction earlier.
- Replacement construction: Starting in 2030, the construction of a new bridge is planned – as part of a nationwide strategy to renew older prestressed concrete bridges.
Measures on site:
- Height limiters and lane narrowings for closure
- Early signage of the detour route
- Increased monitoring of side streets
Conclusion:
Even though there is currently no visible damage, safety comes first: The precautionary closure of the bridge for heavy traffic is an important measure to protect the infrastructure – ensuring a long-term safe traffic connection between Landstuhl and Ramstein.
👉 Passenger cars can continue to drive as usual. Truck traffic will be redirected via a designated route.
