New path in Landstuhl in honor of Dean Otto Moll
Landstuhl honors Dean Otto Moll with his own path – inauguration at September 28, 2025. The city council is following the wishes of many citizens.
Coming Soon in Landstuhl: The New Dekan-Otto-Moll-Path
The Sickingenstadt Landstuhl wants to create a lasting memorial to one of its most important spiritual figures: In the main committee, it was unanimously decided that the path from the “Kreuz” on Weiherstraße to Berliner Straße will officially be named Dekan-Otto-Moll-Weg. In doing so, the city is following not only a proposal from the administration but also the wish of many citizens – especially numerous older residents who still vividly remember Otto Moll’s legacy.
The official opening will take place on September 28, 2025. Further information: https://sickingenstadt-landstuhl.de/en/events/26-otto-moll-weg
Who was Dean Otto Moll?
Dean Otto Moll was far more than a pastor. In a time of great uncertainty and hardship – at the end of World War II – he was a driving force, a bearer of hope, and an identification figure for many people of Landstuhl.
Together with the parish, he made a vow that if the city was spared by the war, a chapel would be built in honor of the Virgin Mary.
This promise was kept: The Marienkapelle on the Atzel, today a quiet place overlooking the city and castle, was inaugurated in 1953 under his leadership.
But Otto Moll’s influence went far beyond that:
- He initiated the renovation of St. Andreas Parish Church,
- oversaw the construction of the Holy Spirit Church (1955),
- was significantly involved in building St. Markus Parish Church and a kindergarten on the Atzel,
- and contributed to the expansion of St. Johannis Hospital.
For his tireless work, he was awarded the Honorary Citizenship of the City of Landstuhl on February 3, 1970 – one of the city’s highest honors.
A Sign of Remembrance and Gratitude
By naming the path “Dekan-Otto-Moll-Weg,” the city not only wants to honor the life’s work of a dedicated clergyman but also create a visible sign of remembrance. The path connects several places that were significant to Otto Moll, thus offering a symbolic space for memory.
The inauguration has already been scheduled: On September 28, 2025, the Dekan-Otto-Moll-Path is expected to be officially opened – likely with a ceremonial setting and information about Otto Moll along the path.
