Official Opening on Sunday, September 28, 2025

The city of Landstuhl announced the inauguration of the path on its WhatsApp channel:

The Sickingen town of Landstuhl cordially invites all citizens to the grand opening and blessing of the new Dekan-Otto-Moll-Weg on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at around 11:45 a.m., following Holy Mass in Heilig Geist. The small celebration will take place “at the cross” at the foot of the procession path to the Marienkapelle chapel in Weiherstraße.
[...]
The blessing of the path will be performed by Pastor König. Afterwards, the town of Landstuhl, together with the Kolping family of Landstuhl, invites all guests to a small snack with drinks. The Ökumenische Gemeinschaftswerk Pfalz GmbH, together with the Landstuhl special school and the Simotec integration company, will be responsible for maintaining the grounds in the future.
The Sickingenstadt Landstuhl looks forward to welcoming numerous guests who will come together to honor and keep alive a piece of city and church history.

Coming soon in Landstuhl: The new Dean Otto Moll Path

The Sickingen City of Landstuhl wants to create a lasting memorial to one of its most important spiritual figures: The main committee unanimously decided that the path from the “Cross” on Weiherstraße to Berliner Straße will officially be named Dean Otto Moll Path. In doing so, the city is following not only a proposal from the administration but also the wish of many citizens – especially numerous older residents, for whom Otto Moll’s legacy is still vividly remembered.

Who was Dean Otto Moll?

Dean Otto Moll was much more than a pastor. In a time of great uncertainty and hardship – at the end of the Second World War – he was a driving force, a bearer of hope, and an identification figure for many people in Landstuhl.

Together with the parish, he made a vow to build a chapel in honor of the Virgin Mary if the town was spared destruction during the war.

This promise was kept: The Chapel of St. Mary on the Atzel, today a quiet place overlooking the town and castle, was consecrated in 1953 under his leadership.

But Otto Moll’s impact went far beyond that:

  • He initiated the renovation of St. Andreas Parish Church,
  • oversaw the construction of the Holy Spirit Church (1955),
  • was instrumental in building St. Markus Parish Church and a kindergarten on the Atzel,
  • and contributed to the expansion of St. Johannis Hospital.

For his tireless work, he was awarded the Honorary Citizenship of the City of Landstuhl on February 3, 1970 – one of the city’s highest honors.

A sign of remembrance and gratitude

By naming the path “Dean Otto Moll Path,” the city not only seeks to honor the life’s work of a dedicated clergyman but also to create a visible sign of remembrance. The path connects several places that were significant to Otto Moll, thereby offering a symbolic space of memory as well.

The inauguration has already been scheduled: On September 28, 2025, the Dean Otto Moll Path is expected to be officially opened – with a ceremonial program and information about Otto Moll along the route.
